We have implemented the Common Core State Standards (CCSS), along with some other 40+ states in the US. It is a rigorous curriculum that is aligned with college and work expectations and include rigorous content and application of knowledge through high-order skills. Here is a link to http://achievethecore.org for more information on the Common Core State Standards.
The Smarter Balanced Assessment is the new standardized assessment that is being administered in April and May of 2015. It consists of two parts:
1. A Computer Adaptive Test called the CAT in both English Language Arts and Mathematics and
2. A Performance Task Assessment where the students are presented with a real life situation and they have to use problem solving skills to complete the task.
English/Language Arts: We use the McGraw-Hill Wonders program which is aligned to the CCSS and teachers also supplement with special projects like book reports, dramatic plays, and art integration.
Mathematics: Our focus has been on teaching model drawing and inquiry through problem-solving and we use Singapore Mathematics with some supplementation with web-based common core materials.
Our students also have PHYSICAL EDUCATION, ART, MUSIC/HAWAIIAN STUDIES, LIBRARY and TECHNOLOGY each week.
